James Whitcomb Riley: The Hoosier Poet's Legacy
Honoring Greenfield’s native son through poetry and tradition
James Whitcomb Riley, known as the Hoosier Poet, was born in Greenfield, Indiana, and his work captures the spirit of the Midwest. Each year, the Riley Festival celebrates his life by selecting one of his poems as the event’s theme, connecting the community to his enduring influence. The festival’s centerpiece, a statue erected in 1918, stands as a tribute to Riley’s impact on local culture and literature.
